DigitalOcean Black Friday 2026: is there a deal?

This post may contain affiliate links. If you buy through them, I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

DigitalOcean is a cloud provider that developers use to run servers, called Droplets, from a few dollars a month. Many bloggers search for a DigitalOcean Black Friday deal, so this guide explains what I could confirm, what DigitalOcean charges right now and whether it is even the right choice for a blog. As of 20 October 2026, DigitalOcean has not announced a Black Friday 2026 offer.

DigitalOcean is not traditional web hosting. When you create a Droplet, you get a virtual server with an operating system, and you are responsible for installing and maintaining everything on it, including the web server, WordPress, security updates and backups.

That makes it cheap and flexible for people who are comfortable with servers, and hard work for people who are not. For most bloggers, the more useful question is whether to use DigitalOcean directly or through a managed platform that runs on top of it.

Facts below come from DigitalOcean’s own homepage and Droplet pricing page, checked on 20 October 2026.

Key takeaways

  • As of 20 October 2026, DigitalOcean has not announced a Black Friday 2026 offer, and neither its homepage nor its pricing page mentions Black Friday.
  • I could not find an official DigitalOcean Black Friday sale for 2025.
  • The cheapest Basic Droplet is $4 per month for 1 vCPU, 512 MiB of RAM, a 10 GiB SSD and 500 GiB of transfer.
  • Droplets are billed per second with a 60-second minimum, and the monthly price works as a cap.
  • A Droplet is an unmanaged server. You install and look after everything yourself.
  • For most bloggers, a managed host is easier than a raw Droplet.

Has DigitalOcean announced a 2026 Black Friday deal?

No. When I checked DigitalOcean’s homepage and Droplet pricing page on 20 October 2026, neither mentioned Black Friday, Cyber Monday or a seasonal promotion.

As of 20 October 2026, DigitalOcean has not announced a Black Friday 2026 offer. I will update this post if it does.

Did DigitalOcean have a Black Friday sale in 2025?

I could not find one. Searching for a 2025 DigitalOcean Black Friday offer turned up coupon and credit pages from third-party sites, but nothing from DigitalOcean itself announcing a Black Friday discount.

DigitalOcean’s pricing is built differently from a shared host’s. There is no low first-term price that jumps at renewal. You pay the listed rate for the resources you use, every month. That is one reason a classic Black Friday discount is less common for this kind of provider. Past offers are not a promise in any case.

Current DigitalOcean prices (before Black Friday)

The pricing page listed this as the cheapest Basic Droplet on 20 October 2026.

ItemDetail
Price$4.00 per month, or $0.00595 per hour
vCPU1
Memory512 MiB
SSD10 GiB
Transfer500 GiB

The page says Droplets are billed per second with a 60-second minimum, and that the monthly price is a cap. It also notes that, from 1 January 2026, the minimum charge is 60 seconds or $0.01, whichever is higher.

A 512 MiB Droplet is very small for WordPress. If you plan to run a blog on DigitalOcean directly, check the larger Basic Droplets on the pricing page, and remember to budget for backups.

Is DigitalOcean right for your blog?

  • You are comfortable with Linux. A Droplet gives you full control at a low, predictable price. It is a good learning platform too.
  • You want WordPress without server work. A raw Droplet is the wrong tool. Choose a managed host instead.
  • You want DigitalOcean’s servers without the work. Managed platforms such as Cloudways let you run WordPress on cloud servers, including DigitalOcean, while they handle the server setup. My Cloudways review and Cloudways Black Friday guide explain how that works.

If you are just starting out, my guide to the best hosting for a new blog is a better starting point than any cloud server.

Watch out

  • Unmanaged means unmanaged. Security updates, backups and fixes are your job.
  • Plan your backups. Check which backup options exist and what they cost before you rely on a Droplet.
  • Usage-based extras. Check how extra transfer and add-on services are charged.
  • Ignore unofficial coupons. Use credits or codes only from DigitalOcean’s own site.

How to get the best price

  1. Pick the right size. Start small and resize later, rather than paying for capacity you do not use.
  2. Watch DigitalOcean’s own site. Any promotional credit for new users would be shown there or at sign-up.
  3. Count the extras. Add backups and any managed services to the monthly total.
  4. Compare with a managed host. Your time has a cost too. A managed host can be cheaper overall if you are not technical.

Is it worth waiting for Black Friday?

No. I could not find a past DigitalOcean Black Friday sale, and its prices are the same for everyone, every month. If DigitalOcean suits you, start when you are ready. If it does not, the Black Friday deals from managed hosts are the ones to watch. Either way, my guide to speeding up WordPress helps whichever server you choose.
