Divi Theme Review 2026

Divi is one of the best-known WordPress themes in the world, and in 2026 it is almost a new product. Divi 5, a rebuilt version of its visual builder, became the official release in February. This review covers what Divi is, what changed with Divi 5, what it costs, and who should and should not use it.

Most WordPress themes give you a design and a few settings. Divi gives you a complete visual builder as well, so you can design every page, header, footer and post template by dragging elements onto the page and seeing the result as you go. In that sense it competes as much with page builders like Elementor as with other themes.

It is also sold differently. You do not pay per website. One Divi membership covers unlimited websites, and there is a lifetime option you pay for once. That is a big reason Divi is popular with freelancers and people who run several sites.

A note on how I wrote this. I have not built this site with Divi and I have not run my own speed tests on it, so I do not quote speed scores. The features, versions, dates and prices below come from Elegant Themes’ own website, blog and help centre, checked on 13 October 2026.

What is Divi?

Divi is two things in one package: a WordPress theme and the Divi Builder, a visual page builder. You open a page, add sections, rows and modules such as text, images, buttons and forms, and style them on the page itself rather than in a settings panel.

The Theme Builder extends that to the whole site. You can design global headers and footers, the template used by every blog post, archive pages and WooCommerce product pages.

Divi is made by Elegant Themes, which has been building WordPress themes and plugins since 2009. Its own site says Divi has over one million customers. A yearly membership also gives you access to the company’s other products: the Extra theme, the Bloom email opt-in plugin and the Monarch social sharing plugin.

What changed with Divi 5

Divi 5 is the biggest change in Divi’s history. Elegant Themes describes it as “rebuilt from scratch”, with a new code base and a new developer API.

  • September 2024 Divi 5 public alpha released for testing.
  • 14 January 2026 Elegant Themes announces that the beta label will be removed on 26 February, and says 40% of its customers are already choosing Divi 5.
  • 26 February 2026 Divi 5 becomes the official stable release.
  • May to October 2026 Regular feature releases for Divi 5, including new modules, a CSS Grid editor, loop filters, Divi AI Agents and, on 9 October, Components and Slots.

The most important technical change is that Divi 5 no longer stores your pages as shortcodes. Older versions of Divi saved layouts as long strings of Divi shortcodes, which became a mess if you ever switched themes. Divi 5 saves content in a block-based format that Elegant Themes says improves compatibility with the WordPress block editor.

Other headline features in Divi 5 include:

  • A design system with global variables, presets and a colour variable generator, so you can change a colour or font size in one place.
  • Flexbox and CSS Grid layout tools.
  • A Loop Builder for dynamic lists of posts, terms and users.
  • Seven predefined responsive breakpoints, which you can customise.
  • A Layers panel and customisable builder panels.

What about existing Divi 4 sites?

Elegant Themes says Divi 5 is backwards compatible, and that Divi 4 users can choose to opt in to Divi 5 or stay on the Divi 4 update path. It promised to support Divi 4 for at least six months after Divi 5’s official release, and Divi 4 was still receiving updates in September 2026.

To move a site, you need Divi 4.27.6 or later, then you enable the Divi 5 update. The help centre recommends taking a backup and following its migration guide, and it warns that the migrator should first be used for testing on non-production sites. Modules that do not convert keep working through a backward compatibility mode, but they do not get Divi 5’s performance improvements.

Watch out

If you run an existing Divi 4 site with third-party Divi plugins, test the move to Divi 5 on a staging copy first. Some third-party modules were still adding Divi 5 support in 2026. Check each plugin’s compatibility notes before you switch.

Key features

The visual builder

The builder is the heart of Divi. You edit on the front end of your site, see changes immediately and switch between desktop, tablet and phone views. Elegant Themes lists more than 200 elements, and it offers thousands of premade layouts that you can import as a starting point.

Theme Builder

With the Theme Builder you design the templates that wrap your content: the header, the footer, single posts, category archives and so on. For a blogger, the single post template is the one that matters, because every article uses it.

Design system and presets

Divi 5’s variables and presets are aimed at keeping a site consistent. You set your colours, fonts and spacing once, then reuse them everywhere. If you later change the brand colour, it changes across the site.

WooCommerce modules

Divi includes dozens of WooCommerce modules, so you can design product, cart and checkout pages with the same builder.

Divi Dash

Divi Dash is a site manager included free for Divi customers. It lets you manage updates, themes, plugins and users across all your websites from one place, which is useful if you look after several sites.

Divi AI and the other Pro services

Divi Pro adds four paid services: Divi AI for generating text, images, code and whole layouts; Divi Cloud, which Elegant Themes calls “like Dropbox for Divi”, for saving and reusing layouts; Divi VIP for faster support; and Divi Teams for giving team members and clients access. In September 2026 Elegant Themes introduced Divi AI Agents, which build pages from plain-language prompts.

You do not need any of these to build a good site. They are worth it mainly for people who build sites for clients.

Divi pricing in 2026

These are the plans listed on the Elegant Themes pricing page on 13 October 2026, in US dollars. Every plan covers unlimited websites.

Divi Lifetime$249 one-timeDivi and Divi Dash for life, with supportNo recurring subscription
Divi Lifetime + Pro$297 todayLifetime Divi plus the Pro servicesPro services listed at $212 per year

Refund policy

Elegant Themes says it offers “no-questions-asked refunds to all customers within 30 days of your purchase”. That gives you a month to build a real page and decide.

What happens if you stop paying?

According to the pricing page FAQ, you can keep using the themes you have already downloaded forever. You lose access to the members area, new themes, theme updates and support. Running a theme without updates becomes a security risk over time, so treat the yearly fee as an ongoing cost, or choose the lifetime plan.

Yearly or lifetime?

The lifetime plan costs $249 once, compared with $89 every year. If you expect to use Divi for more than three years, lifetime works out cheaper. If you are not sure Divi is right for you, start with yearly.

Elegant Themes has historically run a large Black Friday sale. My Divi Black Friday guide covers what was offered last year and what to watch for this year.

Divi pros and cons

Pros

  • Unlimited websites on every plan
  • Lifetime option with no recurring subscription
  • Complete visual builder and Theme Builder included in the theme
  • Divi 5 drops shortcodes and adds a modern design system
  • Extra, Bloom and Monarch included with the yearly plan
  • 30-day no-questions-asked refund

Cons

  • Your layouts depend on Divi, so switching themes later means rebuilding pages
  • More to learn than a simple blogging theme
  • Moving older Divi 4 sites to Divi 5 needs testing
  • Some third-party Divi plugins were still catching up with Divi 5
  • Pro services add a yearly cost that many bloggers do not need

Who should use Divi?

Divi is a good fit if:

  • You build or look after several websites and want one licence for all of them.
  • You want to design pages visually without writing code.
  • You like the idea of paying once with the lifetime plan.
  • You build sites for clients and can use Divi Dash, Divi Cloud and Teams.

You may not need it if:

  • Your site is a simple blog that is mostly articles. A lightweight theme and the block editor can do the job with less to learn.
  • You already use another builder, such as Elementor, and are happy with it. My Elementor Pro review covers that option.
  • You want to keep your design independent of one theme company.

Pro tip

Elegant Themes claims that Divi 5 can score 100 on Google PageSpeed on all devices. I have not run my own speed tests, so do not take that as a promise for your site. Your hosting, images and plugins matter just as much. Test your own pages before and after, using my guide to speeding up WordPress and passing Core Web Vitals.

How to get started with Divi

  1. Choose a plan. Yearly if you are testing, lifetime if you are sure.
  2. Download Divi from the members area. Upload it in WordPress under Appearance, Themes, and activate it.
  3. Add your API key. Enter your Elegant Themes username and API key in the Divi settings so you get updates.
  4. Set your design system first. Define your colours, fonts and spacing as global variables before you build pages.
  5. Build your post template. Use the Theme Builder to design the template every blog post will use.
  6. Build a key page, then test it. Check it on a phone and test its speed, all inside the 30-day refund window.

Verdict: is Divi worth it in 2026?

For freelancers, agencies and anyone running several sites, yes. Unlimited websites, a lifetime option and a builder that has been modernised with Divi 5 make it one of the best-value design tools in WordPress. The move away from shortcodes also removes one of the oldest complaints about Divi.

For a single blog that is mostly text, it is harder to recommend. You are taking on a full builder, a learning curve and a design that depends on Divi, when a lighter theme might do the job. Try it with the 30-day refund and decide from your own site.

Try Divi on your own site

Build a real page and a post template, test it on a phone, and use the 30-day refund if it is not right for you.
